This temple stands on the Takht-e-Suleiman hill. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. The structure displays simple Kashmiri architecture. Visitors must climb steps to reach the top. From there, you can see the Dal Lake and the mountains.

The Shankaracharya Temple is very old. King Gopaditya built it first, around 371 BC. A famous saint named Adi Shankaracharya visited it later. He stayed there and gave the temple its name. This visit happened in the 9th century AD. So the temple is over 2000 years old.
