2. Fragrance

The scent of real sandalwood is woodsy, sweet, smooth, and enduring. It's subdued yet soothing. Fake sandalwood frequently has a strong, artificial aroma that goes off fast.

3. Density and Weight

Because of its high percentage of oil, real sandalwood is usually dense and weighty for its size. In water, it usually sinks. It may be fake if it feels light in your hand.

4. Texture and Colour

White sandalwood has a smooth, smooth feel and can be pale yellow to reddish-brown in colour. Red sandalwood has no visible grains and is a deep red colour.
